Why Diets Don’t Work (And What To Do Instead)

If you’ve ever started a diet hoping this one would finally “fix” things, you’re not alone. Diets promise control, weight loss, and a better version of ourselves. But here’s the truth: they don’t work long-term — and they often leave us feeling worse.
Most diets are based on restriction — cutting out foods, ignoring hunger, or following rigid rules. Sure, you might see short-term changes, but your body is wired to fight back. It’s smart. It wants to keep you safe. That’s why after weeks of restriction, cravings intensify, your metabolism slows down, and the cycle of guilt, frustration, and “starting over” begins again.
Even more damaging? Diets teach us to distrust our bodies.
There is another way. You don't need another plan. You need support. A space to understand your relationship with food, emotions, and your body — without judgement. That’s where I come in.
As a dietitian and counsellor, I help you step away from food rules and step toward something far more powerful: trusting yourself again. Whether it’s emotional eating, food anxiety, or body image struggles, I’ll walk with you — one step at a time.
