SkinnyTok! We need to talk about it!

You may have heard of “SkinnyTok” — a corner of TikTok where content glorifying thinness, weight loss, and restrictive eating trends thrives. It might look harmless on the surface: “What I eat in a day,” “How I lost weight fast,” or aesthetic shots of bodies paired with soothing music and filters. But underneath the curated content is a worrying message —

The truth is, most of this content has no evidence base, and much of it encourages harmful behaviours that can spiral into disordered eating or full-blown eating disorders.

Even more concerning? It’s not always obvious. SkinnyTok thrives on normalising under-eating and over-exercising.

SkinnyTok is not a space of support — it’s a space of comparison, pressure, and often harm. Let’s help young people see through the filters, beyond the trends, and toward something more meaningful!
