Anxiety During Year 12: Finding Support Through the Pressure

Year 12 is often seen as the most challenging year of school. The pressure to perform, the fear of the future, and the endless to-do lists can leave you feeling overwhelmed. As the final year of high school, expectations from family, teachers, and even yourself can feel like an unrelenting weight on your shoulders.

Anxiety is a common companion during this time. The constant worry about exams, grades, and what comes next can leave you sleepless, anxious, and stressed. It's normal to feel uncertain, but it's important to recognise when those feelings are becoming too much to handle.

First, remember that you're not alone. Talk to friends who are going through the same thing, or reach out to a counsellor. Acknowledging your anxiety is the first step in finding relief. Practice mindfulness or breathing exercises to stay grounded when your thoughts start spiraling. Break tasks into manageable chunks to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

And most importantly, ask for help. Whether it's from a teacher, family member, or mental health professional, support is essential. You don’t have to face this alone. Taking small steps toward self-care can make a world of difference. Your mental health is just as important as your grades, and it's okay to ask for help when you need it.
