Why I Won’t Collude with Anorexia!

Sometimes, sitting in a session, it can feel like the easiest thing would be to nod along with anorexia’s rules. To not push back. To let the fears and restrictions take centre stage.

But that wouldn’t be supporting you. That would be supporting anorexia.

And I care far too much about you to do that.

Colluding with anorexia might feel kinder in the moment – less challenging, less uncomfortable – but in the long run, it only makes the illness stronger and your world smaller. My role is to hold hope and vision for recovery, even when it feels impossible for you. To gently but firmly say: I see the eating disorder, but I also see YOU. And I will always back you, not it.

Recovery is messy and painful. It’s not about me making things easy – it’s about me walking alongside you, sometimes holding the line, always believing you deserve more than what anorexia offers.

You don’t want me to collude. You want me to be steady, to keep you tethered to the possibility of freedom, even when it’s hard. That’s how I can best show up for you.
