About Helen Dean

Working as both a dietitian and a registered counsellor in the field of eating disorders offers several significant advantages:

Helen specialises in anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and ARFID, offering FBT and APT as well as individual and family counselling and will work at the pace that suits the young person and family.

I address the nutritional, emotional, and psychological aspects of eating disorders, providing a more holistic approach to recovery.

I can provide treatment plans that incorporate dietary recommendations alongside therapeutic strategies, ensuring that clients receive well-rounded support.

I can identify and address the psychological triggers that contribute to disordered eating behaviours, helping clients work through underlying issues.

I work with families to help them understand the complexities of eating disorders, providing both nutritional education and emotional support, which can be crucial in the recovery process.

By addressing both the dietary and psychological components, I can help clients develop strategies for maintaining recovery and preventing relapse.

I use a variety of evidence-based treatments including

  • family therapy;

  • individual therapy;

  • motivational interviewing;

  • adolescent-parent therapy and

  • emotion-focused therapy.
